A plunge into the lower levels of Arcadia Vulcan, where survival is measured in scrap metal and secrets are submerged in a golden fluid.

Introduction

Welcome back to the blog!

In our previous post, we explored the Collapse of Earth and the "digital torpor" that pushed humanity to the brink. Today, I want to take you straight into the heart of the narrative aboard the Vulcan.

Arcadia Vulcan is no place for the fainthearted: it is a massive metallic structure suspended in space, where most survivors live crammed in the slums. Among them are two teenagers, Jonax and Mila, willing to do whatever it takes to scavenge useful parts... even breaching bulkheads forbidden by the High Command.

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 1:

📜 The Excerpt

“The thermal ducts of the lower levels all converge here. If there is a storage sector forgotten by the High Command, it’s behind that bulkhead. Move it—the patrol drones won't take long to trace the power surge...”

Jonax used the tip of his knife to bypass the fuses and, with a deep, liberating click, the door slid sideways, disappearing into the wall cavity.

When their flashlights illuminated the interior, both kids froze on the threshold. The room was massive, but the most unsettling aspect was its stark, geometric division: it looked as if two opposing worlds had collided right in the center of that room.

The left wall was pure slum chaos: a true graveyard of industrial metal. Electrical cables hung from the ceiling like black vines, and crumpled sheet metal along with rusted drone hulls were piled on the floor.

The other wall, however, was an insult to the slums. Pure white, aseptic, almost ghostly in its immaculate cleanliness. On that side of the room stood a long steel counter with chemical measuring instruments still intact.

But it was the background of that clean half that stole their breath away. Lined up against the wall were three large vertical cylindrical pods. The first two were powered off. The third, however, was alive.

Its internal generator hummed with a low magnetic pulse. Inside the cylinder, immersed in a dense fluid shimmering with golden reflections, the outline of a human figure could be glimpsed.

Author's Note

In this scene, the Sci-Fi soul of the novel condenses: on one side, the rust, hunger, and resourcefulness of kids born on the edge of the abyss; on the other, a forgotten, pristine, and lethal technology that holds the key to Earth's rebirth.

Who is the figure submerged in the golden fluid? And what will happen when the pod opens?

Question for Readers:

What feeling does this contrast between slum scrap metal and sterile laboratory perfection evoke in you? Are you more drawn to survival stories or grand technological mysteries? Let me know in the comments!
