When I started outlining the universe of The Genesis of Kael, I knew the setting couldn't just be a simple backdrop—it had to be a living, oppressive character in its own right. After the Collapse of 2047, humanity found itself torn between the temptation of the sky and the poison of Earth. It is in this context that the Arcadias—the massive world-ships—were born.

Among them, the Vulcan is the colossus that embodies the most rugged and visceral side of the story.

Why "Vulcan"?

The name itself evokes the god of fire, the forge, and molten metal. I didn't want a sleek, clean, or elegant sci-fi spaceship (that role belongs to other structures, like the cold and sterile Valkyrie). The Vulcan had to convey the brutal weight of matter:

Plates of raw steel perpetually wet with condensation underfoot.

Grids of rusted conduits and bulkheads hissing with refrigerant steam.

A low, dull hum and constant vibrations generated by the heavy thrusters and power generators.

Creative Inspiration

The idea for the Vulcan came from heavy industrial architecture and a desire to create a claustrophobic environment. It is a structure where the smell of engine grease and the rumble of generators never grant the characters peace, whether they are exploring secret crawlspaces or trying to hide.

As I wrote, I often asked myself: How far can human beings go to survive? And what are we willing to sacrifice when everything around us is reduced to metal and rust?

The Vulcan is the symbol of this struggle: a giant machine built to save our species, but turned into a steel trap where every day is a fight to remain human.
